How It Works at Primary Purpose

We operate rustic facilities on 16 acres in rural Mendocino County where a maximum of 16 men participate in a structured sober living environment for up to one year. Some are referred; many are inspired by word of mouth from previous residents and their families. Others find us on their own. While here, all share in common the experience and practice of a new way of living based on the 12 Step approach. This includes:

  • exchanging peer support
  • attending daily support & focus group meetings
  • providing sweat equity to maintain & improve their living environment, facilities and property
  • attending off-site meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous & Narcotics Anonymous
  • taking on added responsibility to contribute to the mutual wellbeing of all residents
  • leading to a successful move back to the larger community as drug-free citizens.
