Investing in Our Men's Success

Mendocino County Primary Purpose is a nonprofit public benefit corporation as specified in section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Your contribution is tax deductible under federal law.

$50 will pay for one day's residence for one man to pursue what we call Recovery on the Ridge. This includes room, board, and supportive services.

We encourage you to invest in as many days for as many men as you are able, with our thanks in advance. After completing your review of the information on this web site, we look forward to your finding and clicking on the Donate Now button. This will direct you to an easy and convenient way to support our work. To manifest your support for a day (or more) you may use these links:

... and thank you in advance.

We can process your credit card donation by phone or right here on our web site -- click the green "Just Give" buton on any page -- if this is preferable. We are also constantly seeking opportunities for our participants to learn life skills through mentoring by experienced individuals, as well as jobs offering them living wages.

a letter from the board:

3320 North E Road — PO Box 66 — Albion, CA 95410

Hello,

This letter is really about you, even though I'm writing to tell you about our organization, Primary Purpose, and the men who show up at our rustic, rural facilities looking for help. Your financial contribution is essential to make change in their lives a reality. Your investment is the best hope these men have to recover from addiction and regain their lives as healthy, productive community members.

I am a member of the volunteer board that joined our Director, Mike Rees, in 2008 to rebuild Primary Purpose's capacity to help men help themselves. We've had our hands full because the organization was on something like life support when we started to do this. There were not many men on the premises then.

We also learned that good will for our organization was intact as we reached out to others, and started to plan for the future. With help donated by a CPA/Attorney, the articles of incorporation and by-laws have been amended to reflect our revised mission. Our financial transactions are documented by a local bookkeeper. Ours is a work-in-progress.

We've slowly built the board over the last two and a half years to take responsibility for strengthening our organization. Ours is a board whose members:

  • continue to seek out skilled people to increase our connections to the larger community

  • each make annual contributions to support Primary's work (100% giving)

  • are involved in creating a flexible business plan to guide program development

The board has also had to consider whether our sober living program should remain at the present location, a question as yet unanswered. As we continue to consider our options, we are always reminded that one fact remains constant:

Men continue to look for help in an economy marked by diminishing resources. And, Primary Purpose is their safety net where there's not much left of the safety net.

This is today's reality. And, it gets me back to why I aimed this letter in your direction. I'm inviting you to read the enclosed brochure developed to describe the vitality of our organization, its mission and vision, fill in and return the reply card, and join us in making an investment in the success of the men for whom Primary Purpose exists.
